Floods Soak the Houses of Musi Banyuasin Residents in South Sumatra

"To this day there are 700 families whose homes are submerged or more. All those submerged are in 4 villages in Musi Banyuasin," said Head of the Musi Banyuasin BPBD, Hariyadi, on Wednesday (12/19/2018).
The overflow of the Menang River after heavy rain from early December was called the cause. Luckily the flood due to the overflow of the Menang River quickly receded even though it was raining again at night.
"Yesterday there was up to 2 meters high. But now it has receded until it is knee-deep for adults. We have also sent various health and basic needs assistance yesterday," Hariyadi added.
For the two kelurahan in Sanga Desa Subdistrict, Hariyadi said that several schools had been closed. This is to anticipate the existence of victims due to overflow of the River Wins during heavy rain.
Even though the house was flooded, residents were known to still remain in their homes. But there are also residents who have fled to relatives for security reasons.
"Now many residents have taken refuge in their families. But we have sent basic food and medicine, officers from the Health Office and BPBD Muba are also on standby 24 hours on site, including the same equipment," he said.
For Sanga Desa and Babat Supat Subdistricts, Hariyadi said that the two regions were often flooded. Especially when heavy rains and rivers around overflow.
"If this has happened regularly every year. For the residents of Sanga Desa themselves, their rain will definitely be flooded, if there is a drought of forest fires, even when it is hit by a tornado. So we always monitor the area," he said.
Confirmed separately, Muba Regent Dodi Reza Alex Noerdin appealed to residents affected by the flood so as not to force themselves to stay at home. Dodi is worried that the flood will come when people are active.
"The flooded homes left behind, later the need will be assisted by the Muba Regency Government. My residents have asked to evacuate and not force themselves to stay at home," he said.
